ABOUT ME
Caitlin McCullough (b. 1989 Greenville, SC, USA) is a visual artist working with photographic media. She received a BA in Studio Art from Furman University in 2011 with concentrations in graphic design and photography. McCullough worked as an award-winning graphic designer in the nonprofit industry before pivoting to pursue photography. She received her Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in May 2021.
McCullough uses photography to investigate the long-lasting effects of growing up in a haunted land that sometimes seems more lore than alive. Tapping into photography's long history with the occult, she seeks to recreate the creeping, unsettling experiences she’s encountered and strives to invoke emotions, physical responses even, in her audience. The spectator should feel as though they are activating, or even drawing forth their own, spectres in a given space. Through photography, she brings forth her own haunts and invites others to examine theirs.
